Make sure you have an empty course shell in Canvas before you start. If you do not see your course in Dashboard, contact Academic Technology for more information.

Quick Start

  • When Exporting: Make sure you are logged in to Canvas; click one of the courses you want to export the contents from. Then Setting> Export Course Content
  • When Importing: Click one of the empty courses you want to import the contents to. Then Setting> Import Course Content> Canvas Course Export Package
Expand or collapse content Exporting Course Contents (click to view)

Create course content exportable package by going to your Course> Settings> Export Course Content> Choose Export Type "Course" then click "Create Export."

As soon as you click "Create Export," you will see the processing bar. After a minute, try refreshing the browser if it does not change the status.

Click "Click here to download" then the content package will be downloaded for you to import in the empty course shell.

Expand or collapse content Importing Course Material to Empty Course Shell (click to view)

Import course content package by going to your Course> Settings> Import Course Content> Choose Content Type "Canvas Course Export Package" then click "Choose File" or drag and drop the file.

Expand or collapse content Customization when Importing

Customizing importing options are optional but highly recommended to specify; especially adjusting due dates by shifting beginning data and course date can be helpful. In order to obtain each semester's beginning data and ending date, please reference IAIA website page: Academic Calender.

Copying Course Contents takes 2 steps; exporting the contents from the previous course and importing the content package to the empty course shell. Make sure new course shell has been created by Academic Technology.
